Gordon Goehring

From the Vasefinder Museum:

Gordon Goehring(1919-1997) was born and reared in Akron, Ohio. He received his undergraduate degree in biology after studying at Antioch College and Akron University. Later, he studied chemistry at Ohio State, where he was a student of Arthur Baggs. Gordon attended the very important Black Mountain College workshops in the early 1950's, where he met Bernard Leach, Shoji Hamada, Marguerite Wildenhain and Soetsu Yanagi. Gordon Goehring surveyed soils from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which he used to create primarily functional wares at the Northwind Pottery of Hessel, Michigan. The pots created by Gordon were of the highest quality, where he would never sell a second. He exhibited at the Syracuse Nationals in 1950 and 1951 (from Akron, Ohio).
